After Word War 2, the palace was demolished by the East German regime, because it was a symbol of Prussian militarism. Instead, the Palast der Republik was erected here, which served as seat of the parliament of the German Democratic Republic. <\/p>\n<p>After the fall of the wall, the German government decided to demolish the Palast der Republik, because it was a symbol of Socialist tyranny. Instead, the old Stadtschlo\u00c3\u0178 will be reconstructed.
